Finals are around the corner so it’s that time of year where the best and worst of all of us comes gushing out. This is when we find out how disciplined or undisciplined we really are, how proud we are of the work we’ve done up to this point or how we wish we were like the kid next to us who seems as worried about the final as Storm is about the weather.
And it’s during times like this that I’ve wondered how I could become the kind of person who blasts his way through obstacles and walks away like a bad-behind superhero as they crumble in flames behind me. So if you’re wondering the same thing, here are 3 things I believe will help you become as BAD as you can be.
Believe that what you want to do is possible.
I heard a speaker once say, “Sometimes you can’t say, “I can do that.” But what you can say is, “That’s possible.”” Most people see something incredible and say, “I could never do that.” and stop there. But there are some people who look at that same thing and say, “If they can do it, then I can do it.” So when you see someone else cruising through exams and flipping through papers like a deck of cards, don’t beat yourself up by saying you’ll never be able to do that. It’s obviously possible because they’re doing it. The first step is believing that.
Accept the terms
After realizing that what you want is possible, now you have to accept what you have to do in order to get it. Whether it’s running a mile in 4 minutes, going to Med School or publishing a book, find out what it takes to get that and accept it. Some people will see an athlete like Stephen Curry and think, “I can do that.” But when they find out that he gets on the court 2 hours before a game to work out, they shake their heads and say, “That’s too much.”
Or people will look at an A-student and want to be like them, but when they find out that they don’t party every weekend and that they wake up any time before 12 p.m., they say, “I’m not about that life.”
Accept the terms.
Lastly, once you believe that what you want to get is possible and you’ve accepted what you need to do in order to have it, just do it. Don’t just talk about what you’re going to do—how long you’re going to study next week or complain about how hard this professor is or how you’re not a morning person—just do it.
